Call for Composition – University of Music and Performing Arts Graz

We invite submission of proposals that will showcase participatory design in composition, performance and sound installation. Proposed works should have a clear connection to participation of the audience in creating the art work. We will consider submissions of existing works as well as proposals for new ones. Selected composers will work closely with us at Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics (IEM) for realisation of their piece or installation.
The proposals should include a one-page project description, one-page description of technical requirements, short program notes, artist bio(s), and a link to any performance/installation audio or audio-visual documentation (if available). We particularly invite pieces that last 8-15 minutes, however, shorter and longer performance proposals will be considered. Please submit sound files via wetransfer to collabcomposition2018(at)gmail.com with the subject COLLAB2018. Three selected compositions will be awarded with €700 – €500 – €300 respectively.
Please keep in mind the following when preparing performance and installation submissions:
• Space requirements. Indicate whether the work would be more suitable for a university environment (hallways, staircases, indoor and outdoor), traditional concert stage, gallery, public space or other venue.
• Performer(s). List any instrumental performers that would need to be involved. Please note that the organisers cannot provide funding to support any additional performers’ travel or accommodation.
• Feasibility. Provide evidence of the feasibility of the performance or installation. Include documentation and list of previous performances of the submitted or related work that demonstrate the submitter’s capacity to implement the proposal.
• Collaborators. Include the names of all participants/submitters, with a short bio for each (100-150 words).
Important Dates:
